Bekele Gerba is granted bail by the Supreme Court of Ethiopia subject to bond in the amount of 30 thousand Ethiopian Birr paid in advance. He is vice chairman of the Oromo Federalist Congress party and has been in and out of prison.

In his latest imprisonment Bekele Gerba was first charged under the so called anti terror law and the case was being heard by the High court. The High court, however, directed the case to to a lower court. And after the case was sent to the lower court Mr Gerba requested that court to grant him bail. When the lower court denied him bail, the OFC vice chairman appealed the lower court’s decision to the high court.

Finally, today the high court granted Mr Bekele Gerba bail with 30 thousand Birr bond. The prosecutors have always argued against granting the famous politician bail at every hearing.

In recent protests held in the Oromia region, people have been demanding the release of Bekele Gerba, Dr Merera Gudina and others the people considered to be their leaders.
