On its official website the Canadian government issued travel advisory to Canadians traveling to Ethiopia. Canada cautions its citizens against traveling to the cities of Harar, Dire Dawa, Holeta and Ambo due to security situations along the route but gave no specifics as to the nature or details of the risk or danger.

Canada, that has lifted previously issued travel warning to the entire country of Ethiopia as did most western governments, advises Canadians to be specially vigilant while traveling to mentioned security compromised areas.

The United States Embassy in Addis Ababa recently sent travel warning to its citizens citing fighting between government security forces and armed guerrillas along Harar and Bale routes. The Ethiopian government has denied existence of such fighting, as it frequently does.
