Main Road blocked by intense fighting says the United States Embassy in Addis Ababa

The United States Embassy in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia warns American citizens against traveling to the east of the capital city due to intense fighting including gunfire. The Embassy stated its awareness of the report that the main road from Addis Ababa to Jijiga has been blocked by Ethiopian security forces between the cities of Babile and Harar.

According to the United States Embassy the Ethiopian Defense Force troops are arriving in the area making the road even more dangerous and inaccessible. The embassy advises U.S. citizens to review their personal travel plans, to remain aware of their surroundings and to maintain a high level of vigilance.

In its “Security Message for U.S. Citizens”, the Embassy has listed contact information like emails and phone numbers should the need to reach embassy arises.
