Bereket Simon, a onetime close ally to the late Prime mister Meles Zenawi and the first communication minster of the Ethiopian government, is ousted from his position as chairman of the board of Commercial Bank of Ethiopia. Abbay Media source within the government, who wants to remain anonymous for fear of retaliation, has indicated that Mr. Simon also submitted his resignation letter to Prime Minster Hailemariam Desalegn from his position as policy and research adviser to the Prime Minster.

The same source also told Abbay Media that Mr. Simon has abruptly submitted his resignation letter to the Prime Minster soon after learning he has been removed from his position as board chairman of Commercial Bank of Ethiopia. However, according to this individual, Bereket Simon’s ouster is not a surprise for many who are close to the government. The rumors of his firing were swirling around for months among political operatives.

The past few days  have been a roller-coaster to the Ethiopian government as high rank officials were either defecting or resigning. It is well remembered that just few days ago, the former military general and president of Oromia region, Abadula Gemeda also has resigned from his position as speaker of  the parliament. And few weeks before that a military intelligence officer BGen Melaku Shiferaw Truneh and the Prime Minister’s Protocol Chief  Ato Baye Tadesse defected and sought asylum in the United States of America.
