The Patriotic ginbot 7 Movement for Unity and Democracy has convened its members from all over the world to the remote rural areas of Eritrea for its general assembly that began on Wednesday September 6, 2017.  The diaspora members who arrived in the capital Asmara travelled by buses to their main destination where excited members of the PG7 popular force members greeted them with patriotic chants and songs.

What makes this assembly unique is the fact that members of the PG7 Popular force are meeting for the first time with elected diaspora members to discuss the current status of the movement. This is also the first in its kind in terms of size of participating members and the depth and content of discussion since the merger of The Patriotic Front and Ginbot 7 Movement on January 2, 2014.

The current chairman of the PG7 Movement, Professor Birhanu Nega delivered a speech on the achievements of the movement, the challenges the movement faced on its path and the actions taken to resolve the challenges.

Its reported that the invited chairman of Tigray People’s Democratic Movement (TPDM), Mr Mekonnen Tesfaye, made a speech to the attendees condemning  the injustices committed by the minority led Ethiopian regime. He stated that TPLF (Tigray People Liberation Front) that is de facto ruling the country does not represent the Tigrean people.

Artist activist and singer Shambel Belayneh who is present at this general meeting is reported to have entertained the crowd with his famous motivational patriotic songs.

This assembly is expected to conduct in depth review of the movements structure and come up with recommendations for improvement.  The assembly will also look at the hurdles that have been holding back the movement from achieving its desired progress. And finally this gathering is expected  to elect the leaders of the movement for the new term and come up with new and improved strategy to enhance the capacity and speed of the struggle against the enemy.

The PG7 ‘Adera’ music and theatrical band, that is entertaining the members, presented the drama titled ‘Yefitsame Tigle’ translated as “the struggle to the finish”  and  visibly moved the attending members.
