Voters in Malaysia have thrown the ruling coalition from power for the first time since independence 61 years ago.

The architect of the opposition’s upset win is the veteran politician who made the ruling alliance a formidable force during his 22 years as Prime Minister.

Mahathir Mohamad returned to active politics two years ago in an unusual role for him.

As an opposition leader, he accused Prime Minister Najib Razak of stealing millions of dollars in government funds.

And he’s channeled the anger of millions of Malaysians about the rising cost of living and corruption into his latest electoral success – two months before his 93rd birthday.

Presenter: Mohammed Jamjoom.

Guests:
Oh Ei Sun – Asian Strategy & Leadership Institute in Malaysia & former political secretary to Najib Razak
Bridget Welsh – Associate Professor, John Cabot University
Fung Siu – Asia Economist Intelligence Unit

  1. Love this host in which he gave enough time for panels to answer and more importantly did not interrupt them. Respect Bridget for her great and brilliant views and very up-to-date in Malaysia politics.
Here's to more years of freedom of speech, freedom of choice and economic stable country! Thanks Dr. Mahathir! Malaysians are grateful for you!

  2. Congratulations Malaysia. You won a historic victory against corruption and now Malaysia has a bright future ahead. This is a very, very special time. I'm not convinced that scrapping GST is a good idea at all, but hopefully that'll work itself out. Governments should not spend more than they receive in tax – follow Singapore's lead on that, not Britain's.

  3. Other countries can learn from malaysians how to give a lesson to their leader without civil war

  4. Poor Najib, where to hide the billion of dollars that he plundered? Mahathiar will be following the money trail. While there is time, better share it with the Chief Justice who closed both eyes for him.😃

  5. Real fighter!! Its Mahathir mohamad!!! Biggg yesss from southern tiger!!!! Fight for ur right…we are behind u!!! 💪💪

  6. Bridget Welsh analysis is very poor. Mahathir is weaker as his PPBM only have 18 MPs. He will need to answer to DAP and PKR who both command 90 seats. He is their pet dog at most,
