Conflict between government security forces and the public resulted in many deaths

Woldia experienced senseless murder by Ethiopian government Forces triggered by hate politics at a time the city was in the process of celebrating Epiphany.

Yesterday Bahir Dar was busy preparing for Teddy Afro’s concert dubbed “Ethiopia Marching towards Love” when government security forces chose to engage in conflict with civilians celebrating epiphany. The conflict spread to other areas including the city of Woldiya where at least four residents were shot dead by government forces. Several people were reported injured and the number of dead is expected to rise.

According to eyewitnesses interviewed by Radio Deutsche Welle, people taking part in a religious ceremony were beaten by government security forces because they refused to stop singing Church songs.

It was reported that government soldiers were observed driving around in vehicles with a high caliber guns. The Amhara regional administration public relation office is in the process of gathering evidence on the conflict and the lives lost.
