A large number of members of parliament are demanding explanation from the government and its leader PM Hailemariam about the recent ethnic based clashes in different regions of Ethiopia for which no one has taken responsibility. The PM mentioned the presence of these clashes without giving no details and without telling who did it and for what reasons.

More than 20  Ethiopians in chelenko town of Eastern Hararghe were shot dead by Defense forces. There was a mass murder perpetrated on peaceful citizens of Ethio Somali region who were sheltered in a police station in Gadle Kebele of Western Hararghe for safety reasons. There were a number of Amhara and Oromo students killed in Adigrat, Woldiya, Gondar and Bahir Dar.

The members of parliament from Oromo People’s Democratic Organization (OPDO) and Amhara National Democratic Movement (ANDM) have told the deputy speaker of parliament Mrs Shitaye Minale that they will not participate in any proceedings unless and until the PM explains the government’s actions. These parliament members are said to stand with their respective party leaders- Mr lemma Megersa of Oromia and Mr Gedu Andargachew of Amhara regions.

Meanwhile the Executive committee meeting of EPRDF is said to be divided into two camps. TPLF and the Southern Ethiopian People’s Democratic Movement (SEPDM) are standing on one side against OPDO and ANDM on the other. OPDO and ANDM are resisting the decade long dominance of Tigray People Liberation Front (TPLF) that is controlling vital institutions like the military, intelligence and security, foreign affairs, communications and ETC. The two parties OPDO and ANDM are also under tremendous pressure from their constituents who have been protesting for more than two years.

So far the parliament has missed two sessions last week due to the boycott of the Amhara and Oromo members of parliament.
