Jailed journalist, Eskinder Nega, is the 2018 recipient of the joint award of Oxfam Novib and PEN International

Jailed Ethiopian journalist Eskinder Nega, a prisoner of conscious who is currently serving eighteen years prison sentence in one of the notorious prisons in Ethiopia, is a recipient of the prestigious award from two internationally known organizations. The award ceremony will be held in the Hague, Netherlands next Thursday.

Journalist Eskinder Nega is selected to receive 2018 award from Oxfam Novib and PEN International for his fearless writing while living under tremendous pressure from the authorities of the Ethiopian government and which ultimately cost him his freedom.

Oxfam Novib and PEN International selected two winners for the 2018 award. The other recipient journalist Milagros Socorro of Venezuela along Eskinder Nega will be presented their awards next Thursday at a ceremony in the Hague where the city mayor Pauline Krikke will be in attendance.

Eskinder Nega who has been in an Ethiopian jail for the last six years is also a previous recipient of PEN USA, Human Right Watch and also PEN Canada among other awards.
