The witnesses called by the prosecutor to testify against the imprisoned chairman of the Oromo Federalist Congress, Dr Merera Gudina, failed to show up in court.

These were the primary and secondary witnesses the prosecutor informed the court that police searched but couldn’t find them. It was reported, the prosecutor depended upon to get a guilty verdict on Dr Merera Gudina.

The federal High Court that’s hearing the case continued its session by hearing testimonies from the 3rd and 4th witnesses for the prosecutor.

The terror charges brought on Dr Merera Gudina are based on the fact he was sitting next to Professor Berhanu of Patriotic Ginbot 7 in Brussels, Belgium to speak on human rights  situation at the invitation of the European Parliament in November 2016.

The government of Ethiopia alleges Dr Merera has met with Professor Berhanu, who the government considers a terrorist and has sentenced him to death in absentia.

The prosecutor argued in court that Dr Merera was in violation of  the laws under the declared State Emergency that bans citizens to meet or associate oneself with declared enemies of the state like the leaders of PG7.
