The killing of ethnically Amhara and Oromo students in Adigrat, Tigray by Tigrean narrow minded ethnic based policy which triggered massive unrest in Woldia, Gondar, Debre Tabor and Ambo University students. At least four students are dead in Woldia and many more brutally beaten by soldiers dressed as Federal Police. Buildings were on fire in Woldia and Debre Tabor and police were engaged the entire day beating students mercilessly.
The protesting Gondar University students put the blame squarely on the ethnic driven government of Ethiopia and stated that this government thrives in fighting along ethnic lines. The students demanded the end to the apartheid rule currently practiced on peace loving people of Ethiopia. The students of Ambo University in Oromia region also came out in protest opposing the killing and beating of Oromo and Amhara students in Tigray as well as in Woldia, Gondar and Debre Tabor.
In Woldia the infamous and ruthless Agazi Forces beat four students to death and injured many that flooded Woldia Hospital beyond its capacity. The Agazi soldiers were forcing the protesting students take off their shoes and beat them all day long. The Bishop of Wollo, Bishop Ermias was said to go to the area of protest and stayed there trying to mediate and cool off the volatile situation. Towards the evening the library building of Woldia University was set on fire.
On the other hand, in Adigrat University, the place where the killing of Amhara and Oromo students began and became the cause of the protest across the Amhara and Oromo regions, the local police denied students who are not ethnic Tigrians not to leave the university compound. The Tigray Agazi instead kept those students outside and under the blazing sun the whole day. The non-tigrian students in Adigrat University felt insecure staying inside the premises fearing attack from local students and the population. The residents of Adigrat also went out protesting the arrest of local students in relation to the killing of Amhara and Oromo students.
Observers suggest that government Intelligence and security agents were behind escalating the situation and lighting properties to blame on the protesters .
