Fire that ensued in Shashemene prison resulted in loss of life and property damage, it is reported.
The fire that started in the prison compound burnt down the detention houses and prisoners have also become victims of the accident. It is reported; the fire has claimed one innocent life, injured several more and damaged properties.
The death of the individual and several victims plus the damage of properties is confirmed by the city’s security officer. Even though the officer confirmed the loss of innocent life and property damages, he remained tight lipped regarding the cause of the fire. The officer included the cause of the fire is under investigation.
It is to be remembered, Shashemene youth have been voicing their opposition to the government and in the process several of them have been killed by government forces in several occasions.
