Mr. Bekele Gerba, vice president of Oromo Federalist Congress (OFC) and prisoner of conscience, is in danger of losing vision of his left eye.
His daughter, Ms Bontu Bekele, in an interview with the Voice of America (VOA) said, because of his high blood pressure his left eye is seriously damaged and it would be worse unless he gets urgent treatment. During the interview she stressed that unless he gets immediate treatment, he might lose his left side vision.
Ms Bontu Bekele further explained that despite his continuous request for a private hospital treatment, the prison administration refused his request of private hospital medication that was referred by doctors at Menelik hospital.
Doctors who have previously seen him and referred him to a private hospital for advanced medication told him they were worried his hypertension problem might cause irreversible damage to his eyes.
It is to be rememebered that a few weeks ago Abbay Media reported his health problems and his life was in grave danger due to denial of medical treatments.
Bekele is a devoted advocate of non-violent struggle and a high ranking member of the Oromo Federalist Congress.
