The Foreign Minister of United States of America, Rex W. Tillerson, and his Russian counterpart, Sergei Lavrov, will meet in Ethiopia for discussion, it was reported. The meeting was proposed by Russia and was announced by the Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov on Monday.

Both Foreign ministers are traveling to Africa for official visits and the meeting is to be held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia at the end of the week. While Deputy Foreign minister didn’t elaborate on the topic of discussion, it is widely expected to be primarily the situation in Syria. Interfax News Agency of Russia has quoted the Deputy Foreign minister saying the U.S. assessment of the situation in Syria “does not correspond to reality”.

It is expected Foreign Minister Tillerson will meet with Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn, who recently submitted his resignation. The hot topics of discussion between Tillerson and Ethiopian officials are presumed to be the ongoing mass uprising in Ethiopia and the controversial State of Emergency declared few weeks ago that lacks legitimacy and is largely ignored by the people. The United States has shown unprecedented stand against the State of Emergency that has left the Ethiopian government officials and their supporters worried.
